The good thing about snow in Dunsmuir is that it never lasts very long. It is usually a wet snow that melts rather quickly. Yet it stays around long enough to marvel at its beauty or to build a snowman. It gives us all the chance to slow down, lie low, shelter in and watch some good movies or to go skiing or snowboarding at the Mt. Shasta Ski Park in fresh new powder (my favorite time to ski).
When I lived in Buffalo, New York, snow would come and stay on the ground all winter. It never really got the chance to melt because the temperatures were so cold. Fortunately, the temperatures don't go below freezing very often here and all that is usually required is a light jacket in winter to stay warm.
Very often here in Dunsmuir we have warm weather or rain shortly after a snow storm which melts it all away. Yet we are still blessed to experience the four seasons which end up being the mildest they can be. I missed the seasons when I lived in San Jose. It was so wonderful to move to Dunsmuir and experience the four seasons again.
Although I am a little concerned for the fruit trees that were already blooming before this big storm. Will they be ok? Will they still bear fruit?

Dunsmuir is the Happening Place to Be!
Dunsmuir is the happening place to be
with so many wonders for the eye to see,
the people so unique and so alive,
a place where art flourishes and does thrive!
Surrounded by the forest on all sides
with a major river running through it!
Mt. Shasta to the north stands tall with pride
Beauty one sees, wherever one does sit!
Dunsmuir always full of bright color
no matter what time of the year it is!
Nature gives a big show, creates a stir
that can fill one with much wonder and bliss!
Even triple A magazine did say,
if you can't go east for the fall colors,
go to Dunsmuir where you'll see a display
that will enchant and delight you, yes sir!
If you're lucky enough to live in Dunsmuir
then you are lucky enough, I declare!

WHAT I LOVE ABOUT THIS DUNSMUIR TOWN IS
What I love about this Dunsmuir town is
that it is a wonderful place to live!
Where else can one enjoy so much beauty
extending as far as the eye can see?
The charming downtown built way in the past
at a time when life was so slow, not fast
is a great place to hang out with your friends
reflecting on what the universe sends!
The Sacramento river running through
provides recreation and things to do
fishing, kayaking or a quick, cold dip
or in winter watching it roar and rip!
The people they are each one of a kind
friendly, kind hearted and easy to find!
It's a community of good people
that make my heart feel so happy and full!
And above all, Dunsmuir is a great place
to raise children and create a home base!
that it is a wonderful place to live!

DUNSMUIR IS A GREAT PLACE TO LIVE!
I remember how excited I was when I first discovered Dunsmuir, shortly after moving to Mt. Shasta from San Jose back in 1989. Out of curiosity, when I went exploring one day, I got off at the Dunsmuir exit just to see what this small town was about.
I was so amazed at how charming it was with the historic downtown and the Sacramento river and railroad running through it and the beautiful forested hills on both sides of town. It seemed like every chance I got, I kept returning to Dunsmuir until I eventually moved there four months later.
Living in a small town was so different than living in San Jose. It have to admit that it took a while to get used to feeling so exposed. I was immediately struck, though, by how friendly everyone was. People would say, "hello" as I walked by and wave to me as I drove by. The beauty of the area never ceased to amaze me! No matter what season of the year it might be, it was beautiful! There were always so many wonders to behold! After awhile, I discovered the community of Dunsmuir which opened up whole new worlds for me. I didn't really understand what community was till I moved to Dunsmuir and experienced it. I never experienced a feeling of community while living in San Jose. I never even knew very many of my neighbors in San Jose.
I always felt protected and safe while living in Dunsmuir. I liked the feeling of being tucked in the canyon. I also liked the views and close proximity of Mt. Shasta to the north and the beautiful drive south to Redding through the mountains.
Dunsmuir was also an awesome place to raise my two children, Liz and Ben Wu. They got the chance to experience community. It is said that it takes a village to raise a child. The entire village of Dunsmuir helped raise my children and they did it well! My children have gone on to live very successful and happy lives. Dunsmuir lives on inside of them will always hold a very special place in their hearts!
My children also got the chance to experience nature and all the sports connected with it through growing up in Dunsmuir. My children have great respect and appreciation and love for nature. My son is an avid kayaker thanks to Mr.Wright's instruction and inspiration and a snowboarder and a fisherman.
What more can I say? Dunsmuir is overall a great place to live. I hope to go into more detail about this in future blogs as I focus on what I love about Dunsmuir. I hope that you will join me in offering your comments so that we can celebrate Dunsmuir together!
